Greetings from the Committee Chairman//

Hello, this is the Committee Chairman of Seoul Guro International Kids Film Festival Sung LEE.

With the widespread adoption of smart devices and the full-blown digital broadcasting age, we desperately need systematic video media education and quality content for our children. Despite the history of the international film festival is not short in Korea, it is a fact that we are lacking in public film and cultural services for children in Seoul area except Busan.

That is why Guro, which is a special district for children’s education and a cultural center of the southwestern region, is willing to create a future-oriented video culture festival in which children and families can participate together through movies. Movies are a medium where people can feel the cultural diversity and individuality of each country, and I think they can play the role of diplomat between countries through the exchange of movies.

I look forward to the development of local culture through the participation of residents based on the imagination and future potential of the movie. I am confident that the festival will become a market in conjunction with Guro Digital Complex Corporation to create a healthy culture and create new businesses in the 21st century. Your interest and participation in the development of an international film festival will help us to stand side to side with the world’s leading film festivals.

Greetings from the Executive Committee Chairman//

Hello, this is the Executive Committee Chairman of Guro Kids International Film Festival Han-Ki KIM.

These days, I often get the following questions from many people. That question is, “Why should Guro, the main player in the industrialization, hold a children’s film festival?”. And in this situation, I would ask them back

“Do we need a special being to talk about children’s hopes and dreams?”

This was also a question that came after a long time asking to myself.

That’s right. Historically, Guro has been in the very front line as a symbol of industrialization. The so-called Mecca of the breadwinner. Finally, we made it. When people talk about Korea’s development that succeeded beyond expectations, no one can ignore the significant role that Guro played. Preparing for the new era, Guro has to be reborn as a mecca of culture. And children should be in the center of the upcoming era.

I dare to contribute to the transformation of Guro into a mecca of culture through the Seoul Guro International Children’s Film Festival. It’s something that all of us adults need to do: talk about their dreams and hopes, present them with the right values and possibilities and start serious thinking about their thoughts, growth and potentials.

“Learn from a child, they have dream.”

We adults should not make the mistake of hindering child’s “dream” and “hope” in the name of caring about their future. Rather, it should be an opportunity for us adults to talk about our forgotten dreams and hopes through them. Shall we look at a famous quote by poet William Wordsworth?

“The Child is father of the Man. ” < William Wordsworth >

I think it emphasizes the message that ‘children’ are the greatest teachers and parents who can learn dreams and hopes for all children. This kind of perception and realization of these hidden values are the beginning of the historical mission of Guro. I’ll take the lead in the beginning. Guro is waiting for an active participation.

Lastly, let me remind you of the words of renowned a pioneer of juvenile literature Bang Jung-Hwan.

“Children should not be seen just as someone’s son or daughter, they should be seen as a new figure in a new era.” < Bang Jeong-Hwan >

Through children, we will portray Guro as a city of hopes and dreams. Thank you.
